MovementBase

Empowering community-based nonprofits to learn, track impact, and grow through one centralized platform.

Year :

2025

Industry :

Nonprofit Tech

Client :

MovementBase Team

Project Duration :

3 Weeks

OVERVIEW :

MovementBase is a web app concept designed to support community-based organizations in managing member engagement, learning, and impact within a single, centralized platform. The project focused on designing an experience that works for both nonprofit staff managing programs and members participating in learning and community initiatives.

I worked on this project as a UX Designer as part of a five-person team, contributing across research, ideation, and design, with a primary focus on learning modules and interactive knowledge checks.

PROBLEM & APPROACH :

Community-based organizations often rely on disconnected tools such as spreadsheets, Google Forms, and traditional CRMs to manage engagement and learning. This fragmentation makes it difficult to track participation, understand impact, and keep members engaged over time.

To better understand these challenges, our team conducted in-depth research with nonprofit organizations and their members.

Research and discovery included:

  • Conducted 7+ interviews with nonprofit admins, organizers, and members

  • Spoke with organizations ranging from 12 to 50,000+ members

  • Reviewed an existing product brief and real operational workflows

  • Synthesized findings through affinity mapping and persona development

  • Validated early ideas through usability testing

Key insights from research and testing:

  • Managing data across multiple tools creates friction and limits visibility

  • Learning and education features drive long-term member engagement

  • Many members have low technical confidence and benefit from a simple, guided interface

SOLUTION & OUTCOME :

We designed a web app experience that balances structured data and tracking tools for administrators with an engaging, accessible learning experience for members.

The solution includes:

  • Modular learning content using video, text, and imagery, followed by quizzes and knowledge checks

  • Progress indicators such as milestones and achievements to motivate continued participation

  • Admin views for tracking engagement, attendance, and learning outcomes

  • A clean, approachable interface designed to reduce cognitive overload

The project progressed from sketching and low-fidelity wireframes to high-fidelity designs and an interactive prototype. Through testing and iteration, we refined navigation, clarified learning flows, and improved how progress and outcomes were communicated. The final prototype presents a scalable direction for a nonprofit platform centered on learning, participation, and impact.
